The French hotel sector experienced mixed fortunes in 2015. This is what comes out of the results of a study by MKG Consulting revealed this wednesday January 20, 2016.
If, in the entire country, the medium occupation rate is decreasing by 0.3 points at 65.4%, the median price, however, rose by 0.5% to reach 85.6 euros.
These two indicators explain the quasi-stagnation of the revenu per available room (RevPAR) compared to 2014: +0.1% at 56 euros.
But if we look at statistics per geographic zone, we notice that hotels in Paris and Ile-de-France suffered in 2015, largely due to the terrorist attacks of January and November.

+3.5% of RevPAR in province
For the first time in several years, the occupation rate of Parisian adresses drops below 80%. It decreased by 3.4 points in one year. Furthermore, despite an increase of 0.4% of the median price in the capital, the RevPAR decreases by 3.7% in 2015. The decrease is less drastic if we take into account all of Ile-de-France: -2.6%.
Contrarily, in the province, the global RevPAR increases by 3.5% compared to 2014. It is driven up by the 0.7 point progression of the occupation rate and 2.3% rise of the median price.
Some regions have particularly benefited by taking advantage of large events. This is the case with Bretagne with la Marée du Siècle (+5.1% of RevPAR in 2015), of Bordeaux with Vinexpo (+4.9% in Aquitaine) or the French Riviera with the visit of the Saudi King during the summer (+6.8 % RevPAR in 2015).
“The stability of the French hotel sector performance needs to be put into perspective with the results of other European markets for the year 2015, specifies Georges Panayotis, President of MKG Group.
Indeed, France is recording an evolution of 0.1% of its RevPAR whereas the continent is experiencing a global increase of 4.7%.”
