The birthplace of Colette in Saint-Sauveur in Puisaye, the Yonne department, that Colette depicted in several of her books, especially in Claudine à l’école, is now accessible to the public for guided visits only.
“The visit enables to better capture the atmosphere of the Colette family life at the end of the XIX century. The public will have access to all of the inhabited rooms of the house and to the gardens (the garden in front, above, and bottom.)
The visits take place in small groups of 15 people maximum, accompanied by a guide, in order to preserve the intimate atmosphere of the place…” explains Stéphanie Wahl from the CDT of Yonne.
However, Colette’s home has not been entirely authentically reconstituted and the museum is still looking for donors to purchase furniture, art objects, and to repair the wallpaper.
Nevertheless, the house is already offering a rich cultural program, such as classical music concerts.
