Clémentine Pautrot, the winning designer, was chosen from a group of 10 international finalists in the Sofitel MyBed™ design competition: Adeline Pays, Andrew Stellitano, Aurelien Barbrey, Clementine Pautrot, Dan + Jamie, Fillipo Bombace, Geoffroy Gillant, Ian Aw, Pich Tripasai and Keiki Koide, and Siobhan Kelly.
First announced in early 2014, the competition centered around Sofitel MyBed™, Sofitel’s unique bedding concept.
Opened to designers, creatives and students from all over the world, the competition was to create inspiring interpretations of a Sofitel MyBed™ ‘Universe’ – the quest for the ultimate sleeping space.
The winner, Clémentine Pautrot, was chosen from a group of 10 finalists for her design Sleep Space, where sleep is a magical daily experience, and the sleeping area represents the gateway to unconsciousness – the link between reality and sleep.
Pautrot elaborated on the Sofitel MyBed™ sensorial experience by materializing the transition to the dream with an edge offering a material limit separating the bed from its environment, a stone path above a thick carpet that leads to the sleeping area, and a ladder as a headboard that allows hypothetical access to the sky.
The winning designer and finalists were awarded with a complimentary stay in any Sofitel hotel around the world.
Secondly, the winning Sofitel MyBed™ Universe design will be constructed and installed in the lobby of the Sofitel Munich Bayerpost in Germany, with the project and associated scenography photographed for a special section of Wallpaper* magazine in June 2014.
The design will be the centerpiece of a special event on April 4th 2014 in Germany at Sofitel Munich, attended by high profile representatives from Europe’s design and architectural community.
Design submissions by all of the finalists can be viewed on the special digital platform on wallpaper.com:
