The coach gallery of the Château de Versailles, located in the Grande Écurie of the king and closed to the public since 2007, will reopen starting May 10, 2016, thanks to the sponsoring of the Michelin corporate foundation.

Recently restored, this collection of coaches, one of Europe’s most important, will be presented in a new, entirely redesigned space. Composed of two galleries, the exhibition space will expand over 1000m².

The Royal Stables were built by Jules Hardouin-Mansart between 1679 and 1682. Of ostentatious luxury, profusely adorned of gold and sculptures, the coaches were created by the best artists of the Court: architects, woodworkers, sculptors, cabinetmakers, bronze smiths, carvers, gilders, upholsterers, embroiderers, trimming manufacturers etc…

Among the exhibited vehicles, visitors will discover the one used for the wedding of Napoleon I, the Consecration Coach of Charles X or the funeral chariot of Louis XVIII.
