The Panorama XXL is composed of a rotunda set up on the Right Banks of Rouen. The construction of this rotunda extending 35 meters high for a diameter of 34m was the absolute precondition for these panoramas to be exhibited.
Inside this one-of-a-kind construction in France, a 32 meters long canvas, that bears several scenes, is deployed. One panorama stays in exhibition for an average of 7 months before being replaced by another also created by Yadegar Asisi.

Visitors start by discovering an exhibition room that introduces the panorama currently in place and Yadegar Asisi’s artistic process. After going through a few dark hallways meant to disorient them and prepare them for their immersion in this new universe, they finally arrive inside the rotunda.
They then climb up the stairs of the central tower to admire the piece through different angles thanks to 3 observation platforms located at 9m, 12m, and 15m.
The day/night lighting effects create an ideal singular mood to better explore the piece.

“Amazonia”: the current panorama
Since late September and until April 2016, the current panorama, “Amazonia,” represents an Amazonian forrest. From the 15m platform, one can admire the Amazonian landscape in all its glory and climb to the tree tops.
Thanks to a very high image definition, one can even observe, through the help of binoculars made available, the fauna and flora such as parrots and sloths.
This is a way for the artist to raise public awareness of this environment and shed more light on these endangered species. “I hope that through this feeling of astonishment we will provoke a deeper emotional relationship towards the tropical forrest - insists Yadegar Asisi - because it is only when we love something that we can be prepared to truly commit to its preservation.”

“Rouen 1431”: the next panorama
Starting late May 2016, the Panorama XXL will introduce “Rouen 1431, at the time of Joan of Arc,” the new spectacular creation of Yadegar Asisi.
This panorama will be a trip back in time, to six centuries ago, for an unexpected visit of Rouen and a poignant discovery of mythical scenes from Joan of Arc’s life, who was convicted to be burned at the stake in Rouen in 1431. From the 15m platform of the rotunda tower, visitors will stand at the top of the Rouen Cathedral, France’s highest Cathedral thanks to its famous “Butter Tower” that weighs more than the Eiffel Tower with its 2,000 tons of cast-iron.
The artist worked for three years to create this panorama. Yadegar Asisi conducted a lot of research with the help of distinguished historians and archeologist, experts in Rouen, to best reconstitute the city at the time of Joan of Arc.
