Panama City opened the first line of its metro on April 5th

free access during the period of adaptation


After 3 years of works and tests, Panama City opened the first line of its metro on April 5th. Is the first city opening a metro in Central America]b, officially inaugurated by the President of Panama, Mr. Ricardo Martinelli. Some representatives of the French company Alstom were also here since the company participated to the project.

The first line of the metro lies on 13.7 kilometers and has 12 stops, including 5 elevated and 7 underground. Each air-conditioned train has a capacity of 200 people.

Operating daily from 5am to 10pm, the metro is a great mean of transportation, easy to use, fast and safe for thousands of users getting around Panama City every day.

The test run, held in March, allowed more than 12 000 users to learn more about the system's benefits and facilities, as well as the norms of conduct and safety rules of this new way of transportation.

The guest riders included schools and residents of the area of the first line, athletes, medias, private companies, business associations, institutions such as SENADIS, and accredited diplomats of Panama, among other visitors.

During the period of adaptation to the Metro system, it will be free access.

But all users will have to validate their card at entrance and exit. Metrobus, Rapipass (three-in-one) and the Panama Metro commemorative cards will be available.
