Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has announced it opened 74 new hotels in 2013, representing approximately 16,200 rooms in 22 countries, strengthening its global lead and expanding its footprint particularly in developing markets. The company signed 152 new hotel agreements in 2013, marking the fourth consecutive year of increased signings and the highest number of new hotel deals signed since 2007. Starwood expects another strong year of global growth in 2014, with hotel openings and deal signings across all nine brands in more countries than ever before through organic growth.

From the 2014 American Lodging Investment Summit in Los Angeles, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has announced that it expects another year of robust growth in North America.

With approximately 30 new hotels slated to open by year’s end, the Group driven by the rapid proliferation of its Four Points by Sheraton and Aloft brands and a surge in conversions across several of its brands, including Le Méridien which is experiencing strong development momentum.

In 2013, Starwood opened 33 new hotels and signed 52 new hotel deals in North America, up 27% over signings the previous year and the most signed since before the global economic crisis.

In US it has announced the launch of its rapidly growing Four Points brand in Charleston, the capital of West Virginia. Owned by BBL Hospitality, Four Points by Sheraton Charleston completed a comprehensive $15 million renovation to transform the Charleston House Hotel into the newest addition to the Four Points portfolio.

Owned by Rockbridge and managed by Azul Hospitality, Le Méridien Indianapolis will feature 100 modern guest rooms, local cuisine in a re-designed restaurant and lounge, an expanded fitness centre and more than 162.58 square metres of upgraded meeting and event space.

Westin Hotels & Resorts announced also that it will soon introduce the brand its to the island of Mauritius. Owned by Blue Ocean Park Ltd., The Westin Turtle Bay Resort & Spa, Mauritius, is scheduled to open in spring 2014.

The resort will enjoy a pristine beachfront location in the historic Turtle Bay of Balaclava – the former breeding grounds of the Mauritian green sea turtle – on the North West coast of Mauritius, offering captivating views of the turquoise waves of the Indian Ocean.

Nestled in lush tropical gardens and surrounded by sugarcane fields and mountains, the 190 beautifully appointed guest rooms, including 38 suites, will be designed to embrace the natural beauty of the resort’s unique scenery.

Owned and developed by Grupo Puntacana, The Westin Puntacana Resort & Club boasts an ideal location within the exclusive Puntacana Resort & Club property.

The newly constructed hotel offers 200 luxurious rooms and suites with breath taking ocean views, as well as direct beach access, two dining experiences and access to Puntacana Resort & Club’s world-class facilities.

It is the newest resort to join the Westin brand’s rapidly expanding resorts portfolio, which now boasts more than 50 resorts in key destinations around the world.

Owned by Ghanem Al Thani Holdings, The Westin Doha Hotel & Spa is scheduled also to open in late 2014 and will enjoy a prime location in the city’s central business district, comprising a total landscaped area of 49,000 square metres.

Just 15 minutes from Doha International Airport, The Westin Doha Hotel & Spa will be in close proximity to the Museum of Islamic Art, Education City and the Al Mushreib rejuvenation project in Doha’s downtown area.

The 365 beautifully appointed guest rooms will include 92 executive rooms, five private bungalows and two presidential suites, all featuring the renowned Westin Heavenly Bed as well as the latest in modern in-room technology.

The hotel offers all the brand standard including Link@Sheraton experienced with Microsoft and Sheraton Fitness by Core Performance as well as a197 elegant guest rooms, including 32 suites and a Swiss grill restaurant, Route twenty-six.
