Mobile app: Northern France Experience, the “Nooord” in full connection

launch of a mobile application

The Regional Tourism Committee of Nord Pas de Calais recently launched the application Northern France Experience that enables visitors to receive custom-made geolocated touristic tours on their phone or tablets, based on the amount of time they have and on their interests.

“There are two regions that I particularly enjoy, Corsica and the North, I appreciate the latter for its hospitality,” revealed Christian Mantei, Executive Director of Atout France, who attended the release of the Northern France Experience application in Lille.

It is true that in terms of hospitality, the Nord Pas de Calais CRT is on all of the social networks.

The official website www.tourisme-nordpasdecalais.fr that lists the major themes of possible discoveries: culture, nature, sea, city, major events, athletic activities, cuisine, etc. is backed by its presence on Youtube with an average of eight different films, on Facebook with "Nord-Pas de Calais Tourisme", Twitter @tourisme_npdc, Instagram…

“With M-tourisme, there is no offloading between preparing the trip and its experience,” reminds Christian Berger, Director of the CRT who advocates for a “globalization of tools to create an individualization of the messages.”

Northern France Experience, after profiling tourists, creates custom-made tours for them based on the time they have and their interests.

On all the tours, specific offers of business partners are featured. But the tool is evolving. Other tours are being prepared such as Lille gay friendly, etc.

Also worthing mentioning is the “Yes wifi system” that enables tourists to sojourn anywhere in the region, by avoiding areas with no cell-phone coverage.

Rapprochement of Picardie and Nord Pas de Calais

The CRT Nord Pas de Calais invests slightly over 10% of its 4 million euros budget on digital technologies and devotes one quarter of its 31 person staff to this effort.

As for the rapprochement of the regional tourism committees Nord/PdC and Picardie, the major strategic decisions are being left open for now.

“We have been discussing in order to work on a rapprochement of the two CRT but we must wait for an official validation,” states Christian Berger.

In fact, the potential new structure will not change the touristic image of the North that has been capitalizing on its cultural appeal since a few years through its 47 regional museums and memorial tourism.
